US unaware of plans to build tunnel under Bering Strait, but lauds

WASHINGTON, September 8 (Itar-Tass) -- The United States said it is
not aware of any plans to build a tunnel under the Bering Strait but
pleased by cooperation with Russia in the region.
"While we are not aware of any plans to construct a tunnel under the
Bering Strait, the United States and Russia enjoy close cooperation across
the Strait in areas such as environmental protection, historical
preservation, and recognition of the unique heritage of indigenous peoples
in the region," Department of State Spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at a
daily press briefing.
