Military to offer emergency relief, first aid during Chuseok
SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- The military will be on hand to offer emergency relief and first aid during the upcoming Chuseok holiday, the defense ministry said Thursday.
The ministry said 2,949 troops and 585 helicopters and ambulances will be on call across 158 military units nationwide. Separately, first aid support centers will be set up at 18 military hospitals in the country.
Chuseok is one of Korea's largest traditional holidays, and it falls on this coming Monday this year. The long weekend will be from Saturday to next Tuesday.
"During the holiday, the defense ministry and military situation rooms will make sure anyone can get relief and first aid anywhere," said Kwon Yong-woo, head of the ministry's department of disaster management and support.
According to the ministry, the military provided first aid to 63 patients during the Lunar New Year's Day holiday in February this year, and lent a hand over the past four years to more than 300 patients during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.
