S. Korea reopens embassy in Tripoli
SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday reopened its embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, which it closed about four months ago due to the worsening security situation in the North African nation, an official said.
"Our embassy in Tripoli reopened as of today with all embassy staff, including Ambassador Jo Dae-sik, returning to the embassy," Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae said.
South Korea moved its embassy staff to a Tunisian island on May 29 amid escalating dangers from NATO air strikes against forces loyal to disputed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Cho said that South Korea will lift its travel restriction to Libya if the security situation turns stable.
Libya's rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) is now in the midst of moving its headquarters to Tripoli from its previous base in Benghazi.
Last month, South Korea recognized the NTC as Libya's legitimate government.
