S. Korea condemns latest release of U.S. cables by WikiLeaks
SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday slammed the latest disclosure of U.S. diplomatic cables by the whistleblowing Web site WikiLeaks as "irresponsible and inappropriate," saying it won't respond to the unauthorized release of classified documents.
"The disclosure of a large volume of documents by WikiLeaks is irresponsible and inappropriate," Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae said. "The government's basic stance is that it does not respond to illegally disclosed documents."
Early this month, WikiLeaks disclosed unredacted versions of all 251,000 U.S. State Department cables.
About 14,000 documents of the U.S. diplomatic cables are believed to be related to the Korean Peninsula and some documents identify behind-the-scenes contacts between South Korean and U.S. diplomats by name.
