STX's European unit wins US$420 mln deal for 2 ships
SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Yonhap) -- STX Group, a South Korean shipbuilding and shipping conglomerate, said Friday that its European unit has won a US$420 million deal to build two well intervention vessels.
Under the deal with Eide Marine Semi AS of Norway, STX Finland Oy will deliver the two vessels by 2013, the group said.
The 31,000-ton ships with a length of 122 meters and a width of 45 meters are designed to operate in rough seas to service gas and oil fields on the Brazilian continental shelf, it said.
The work on the first hull will begin at STX Rauma shipyard in April 2012 and on the second hull in June 2012, the group said.
Shares of STX Corp., the group's de-facto holding firm, were trading at 15,650 won on the Seoul bourse as of 9:20 a.m., down 0.95 percent.
