Medvedev wants society of ethnic harmony

MOSCOW, September 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
said it is necessary to create society of ethnic harmony and advocate
tolerance to various nationalities and confessions.
"We have to create society of internal harmony where people are
tolerant to each other and at the same time respect traditions that
comprise the core of that or another ethnos," he said in an interview with
Euronews TV channel aired on Friday.
"Regardless of whether the talk is about Central Russia, the Caucasus,
or the Far East citizens of Russia live everywhere and have the same
rights and obligations and have to correspondingly behave themselves in
society," he added.
"Russia is an extremely complicated country in the ethnic aspect and
has a big number of nationalities, confessions, and migrants who arrive in
every country including Russia. Problems in ethnic relations, between
those who arrive to work in European countries and the indigenous
population have aggravated practically in each European country.
Therefore, I believe it necessary to discuss the issue with experts and
politicians" (at the Yaroslavl world political forum), he said.
