Russian rear admiral may face abuse charges
MOSCOW, September 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Rear Admiral Viktor Bursuk
may face criminal charges of office abuse as military prosecutors exposed
that he had groundlessly approved higher costs of the repairs of the heavy
aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.
"The check by the military prosecutors of the Northern Fleet exposed
increased calculations of the cost of repair work of the aircraft
carrier," the main office of the military prosecutor said on Thursday and
specified the abuse resulted in excessive spending of 9.7 billion rubles.
Despite law requirements the head of the technical department of the
Northern fleet Rear Admiral Viktor Bursuk did not engage financial experts
and the staff of the military office of the Russian defense ministry in
calculations and groundlessly approved the excessive amount, it said.
"The materials of the check by prosecutors have been submitted to
military investigation bodies to decide the issue of instituting a
criminal case in connection with office abuse by Bursuk," the office said.
The crime envisages the maximum punishment of four years in jail.
