SA lifts lowest paid to $600 a week

SYDNEY (AAP) - 09 Sept - South Australia's lowest paid workers will get $600 a week following a 3.4 per cent pay rise.
The Industrial Relations Commission on Friday awarded the $19.70-a-week increase, to take effect from October.
It followed the 3.4 per cent increase granted by Fair Work Australia in June which lifted the minimum wage in SA's private sector to $589.30 from July 1.
Industrial Relations Minister Russell Wortley said the pay boost meant workers under the state industrial relations system would not be disadvantaged.
Mr Wortley said the increase would help maintain the real value of wages even during times of relatively mild inflation.
"We all know cost-of-living pressures are a daily concern for South Australian households and any additional income will help to ease that burden," he said.
The decision affects about 1100 workers employed by the state government and about 150 workers employed by local government in South Australia.
