Second Stage of Countrywide Air Drills Starts in Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- The second stage of countrywide air drills started in Iran's Northwestern regions on Saturday morning, a senior Iranian commander announced.
"The first stage of the drills entitled 'Expansion' started on September 7 with the participation of all Iranian air bases in Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Dezfoul, Shiraz, Isfahan, Hamedan, Mehrabad and Tabriz," Brigadier General Jafar Hellatabadi, the commander of the Second Air Base of Martyr General Fakouri, in Tabriz told FNA on Saturday.
He said that the second stage of the drills will last three days, during which the skillful pilots of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) carry out practical and tactical flights and bombard targets with fake ammunitions.
The large offensive air drills are codenamed "Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III".
Different plane equipments, ammunitions and tactics will go under test in four phases during the exercises.
An array of fighter jets, fighter bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, Sukhoi SU-24 fighter-bombers, Mig-29 and the logistic C-130 planes, will be used in the exercises.
Iran has recently made good progress in the air industry and has succeeded in gaining the technical know-how for producing stealth aircraft and drones.
Iran successfully tested a home-made radar-evading UAV with bombing capabilities. Also in 2008, the country's Defense Industries launched production of two well-known home-made fighter jets, namely Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) and Azarakhsh (Lightening).
