Russian compatriots held 5th regional conference in Lima

CARACAS, September 11 (Itar-Tass) - Representatives of Russian
emigrant communities from 18 countries of Western hemisphere had taken
part in the fifth regional conference of Russian compatriots that ended in Lima on Saturday. The biggest delegations came from the United States, Canada and Argentina, Boris Gnatyuk, the head of the Peru-based Russian centre of science and culture, told Itar-Tass by telephone.
For two days Russian compatriots from the Western hemisphere discussed urgent subjects, shared experience in establishing business cooperation with local entrepreneurs and considered plans for strengthening economic, social and cultural ties between their countries of residence with Russia.
Preservation of the native language and national cultural traditions
among the younger generation of Russian emigrants was a vital topic on the agenda.
The Lima conference also discussed a state program for resettling
Russian emigrants to their historical homeland. The number of these people is on the rise.
The delegates stressed the need to link Russian compatriots abroad
with Russia by means of information channels so that they could have
permanent access to objective information about their historical homeland.
The sixth congress of Russian compatriots will be held in Canada.
