Doosan Heavy bags US$80 mln desalination plant order

SEOUL (Yonhap) - Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South Korea's leading power equipment maker, said Tuesday that it has won a US$80 million deal to build a seawater desalination plant in western Saudi Arabia.
Under the deal with Marafiq, a Saudi Arabian state-run company, Doosan Heavy said it will construct the multi-effect desalination facility in Yanbu, about 350 kilometers northwest of Jeddah, the second-largest city in the country.
Doosan Heavy said it plans to complete the plant in March 2014, which will produce 54,000 tons of fresh water per day.
The deal comes seven months after Doosan Heavy clinched an order to build a desalination plant with a daily capacity of 68,000 tons in Yanbu.
