MP: Iran's Scientific Power Displayed by Bushehr Power Plant Operation

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian lawmaker reminded the western powers' sanctions and pressures to deter completion of the Bushehr nuclear power plant construction and delay its inauguration, and underlined that the launch of operation by the power plant displayed Iran's power in science and technology.
"The launch of this power plant indicated Iran's might and power in science and on the international scene," Tehran's deputy at the parliament Esmayeel Kosari told FNA here in Tuesday.
He reminded the contracts signed between Iran and some western states on the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant during the former Iranian regime, and continued, "The westerners imagined that if they had not complied with their undertaking, Iran would not have been able to access civilian nuclear technology, but now everyone can see that the Bushehr nuclear power plant was eventually inaugurated and has launched operation despite the too many problems created (for Iran) by the westerners."
"This success once again proved this fact to both enemies and friends of the Islamic Republic that Iranian youths enjoy many capabilities in different spheres and will never give up their inalienable rights," he reiterated.
The legislator further reminded the problems created by the western states during the last few years to delay inauguration of the power plant, and stressed that "Iran should no more rely on any foreign state for nuclear power plant construction".
"Today, the Muslim Iranian youths and scientists have acquired the nuclear science and we should take the rest of the road relying on our indigenized know-how and technology," he added.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant officially joined Iran's national grid with an initial 40% of power generation capacity.
The power plant will gradually reach its utmost power for the generation of 1,000mw of electricity.
Iran signed a deal with Russia in 1995, according to which the plant was originally scheduled for completion in 1999. However, the project was repeatedly delayed by the Russian side due to the intense pressure exerted on Moscow by the United States and its western allies. Russia finally completed construction of the plant last summer.
On October 26, Iran started injecting fuel into the core of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the initial phase of launching the nuclear reactor.
The second consignment of fuel for the Bushehr nuclear power plant was delivered from Russia earlier this year.
The facility operates under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
