Bushehr Official Stresses Iran's Major Role in N. Power Plant Construction

TEHRAN (FNA)- An official in charge of the construction of Iran's first nuclear power plant in the Southern port city of Bushehr said that Iranian experts have been in charge of 95% of operations in the construction of the power plant's buildings.
Speaking to FNA on the sidelines of a ceremony to mark the official launch of the Bushehr nuclear power plant on Monday night, Mahmoud Jafari said, "95% of the executive tasks related to the completion of the Bushehr atomic power plant have been carried out by Iranian contractors and through Iranian technical know-how."

Iran has announced that it plans to build several more nuclear power plants, using domestic knowledge and experts.

In December 2009, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Iran is through with the first phase of construction of five new nuclear plants as it has located proper sites for its new nuclear facilities.

President Ahmadinejad also added that the next move would be locating proper sites for another five nuclear plants.

Tehran has informed the IAEA that it plans to build 20 nuclear plants to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

The former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, underlined at the time that these sites are due to be established in mountainous areas and each of them enjoys the capability to produce nuclear fuel for a nuclear power plant.

Salehi also underlined that the Iranian government has decided to build 10 nuclear power plants. Observers believe that the decision is a response to the offensive measures taken by the Group 5+1 (the US, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany) against Iran.
