Hot weekend likely in Sydney

SYDNEY (AAP) - 13 Sept - Sydneysiders are set to get an early shot of summer this weekend, with the mercury tipped to hit 30C in some parts of the city.
Some western suburbs will reach 30C for the first time in more than four months, says Peter Zmijewski, senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology.
He says that in the city and beachside suburbs there is still a chance of reaching 30C but that temperatures are more likely to hover in the high 20s.
"It's going to be quite warm in the western suburbs of Sydney but in the city there's a bit of a question mark," Mr Zmijewski says.
"It depends on the wind direction. We may see a sea breeze develop but in the west we may reach 30 degrees."
He predicted the heatwave would last through Saturday and Sunday, before a cold snap early next week.
But he cautioned Sydneysiders against dusting off their swimmers just yet.
"While we can talk about it being warm, what will eventuate is another thing," he told AAP.
"We're still a few days away from the weekend."
On Friday afternoon the water temperature was a bracing 17 degrees.
