Japanese Autum festival of culture opens in Moscow Wed.

MOSCOW, September 14 (Itar-Tass) - A Japanese Autumn festival of
culture opens in the Rachmaninoff Hall of Moscow Conservatoire named after
Pyotr Tchikovsky on Wednesday.
The festival, which is held in the Russian capital for a 17th time,
has been organized by the Embassy of Japan to the Russian Federation and
the Japanese Center at Moscow State University named after Mikhail
Lomonosov.
Organizers say the main purpose of the this festival are not only to
promote a deeper mutual understanding between Russia and Japan and
disseminate the knowledge of Japanese traditionalnd and contemporary
culture. "We also want to express heart-felt gratitude to the people of
Russia for help and support given to the natural calamity-hit Tohoku
region and acquaint the guests with the cultural traditions of the
region," an official at the Japanese Embassy's information department has
told Itar-Tass.
The festival is to be declared open by Chikahito Harada, Ambassador of
Japan to the RF, at a ceremony in the Rachmaninoff Hall. The opening
ceremony will be followed by a concert of Japanese clasical music.
The festival envisages an extensive cultural, educational and sports
programme, including over 30 events. Moscow audiences will see a
performance by the Tohoru-based well-known folklore group performing the
Kuromori Kagura ritual dance, and a jazz trio Chikamorachi under the
direction of leading Japanese saxophone player Akira Sakata.
Lectures are also to be delivered by Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro of
Osaka University and world-recognized founder of robotics, as well as by
prominent writer Suzuki Koji -- the author of the Ring cycle of novels, on
which a film of the same title is based. A Japanese youth culture festival
G-Fest will be also held within the framework of the forum.
Cinema goers will be able to enhoy a separate surprise prepared by
the organizers -- a retrospective show of films directed by Shindo Kaneto,
three-tme winner of Moscow international film festival.
The 17th Japanese Autumn festival of culture will continue at the
Moscow Conservatoire until December.
