Tajikistan thanks RF diplomats for citizens evacuation from Libya.
DUSHANBE, September 14 (Itar-Tass) - Tajikistan is grateful to Russian
diplomats for their active assistance in the evacuation of 30 Tajikistani
citizens from Libya, Tajikistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Davlat
Nazriyev told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"The Russian embassy in Tripoli at the request of the Tajikistani side
has made every effort to take our fellow citizens from Libya," the
diplomat noted. According to him, two Tajikistani citizens are currently
staying in Libya. They are working under contract with a Turkish
construction company and they say that "their lives are not threatened."
"However, we continue to work closely with the Russian embassy in
Tripoli," said Nazriyev.
The ministry spokesman stressed that "since certain events began in a
number of Arab States (Egypt, Yemen, Libya) Russia has provided every kind
of assistance in evacuating dozens of our citizens from these "hot spots."
Concerning the position of Tajikistan on the situation in Libya and
possible recognition of the National Transitional Council (NTC) the Tajik
diplomat noted that "the matter is under consideration."
The National Transitional Council of Libya, sometimes known as the
Transitional National Council, the Interim National Council, or the Libyan
National Council, is a political body formed to represent Libya by
anti-Gaddafi forces during the 2011 Libyan civil war, which has pitted
these forces against the regime of Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi. Its
formation was announced in the city of Benghazi on 27 February 2011 and
its intended purpose is to act as the "political face of the revolution."
On 5 March 2011, the council issued a statement in which it declared
itself to be the "only legitimate body representing the people of Libya
and the Libyan state."
The council uses the name Libya for the Libyan state and has used the
long-form name Libyan Republic, while the Gaddafi government's name for
the Libyan state is the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
