Cairo, September 13 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani , who is also Chairman of the meeting the Arab League Council at the ministerial level in its 136th regular session stressed the Arabs adherence to the option of just and comprehensive peace in the region, which he said would only be achieved by Israel commitment to all the agreements that it had signed with the Arab side.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil al Arabi at the end of the meetings of the Arab Ministerial Council here today, HE the Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said: " Israel's plundering of Palestinian rights in this way cannot be accepted, and that Arabs will continue efforts to mobilize international support for the establishment of independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, during the coming period ", he noted.
He noted that the meeting of the Arab peace initiative in this regard yesterday Monday decided that there is nothing to prevent from going to the United Nations seeking a recognition of the State of Palestine.
HE the Premier and Foreign Minister called on the international community to support the Palestinian and Arab steps in this matter ... He pointed out that the Arab approach is always peaceful even in going to the United Nations, where the move will be determined either to the Security Council or the General Assembly of the United Nations during the next two days based on the decision taken by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim stressed the importance that the international community should support the Palestinian steps as they are peaceful and come in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, pointing out that the Israeli side did not commit to any of the agreements signed since 1995, and was continuing the policy of settlement, and "so the public opinion in the Arab and Islamic world has become sensitive and frustrated and wondering how long this situation would continue ", he added.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani stressed that the issue needed to be examined and required a clear Arab decision, expressing the hope that the issue would be resolved through dialogue and talks, not just talks, but according to a timetable to realize the Palestinian right in accordance with resolutions of the International legitimacy.
Responding to a question on the Arab attitude towards the pressure exerted on the Palestinian Authority and the threat of the US Congress to cut off financial aid to the Authority, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, who chaired the meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level in its 136th regular session, said it is important that Arab states shoulder their responsibilities and support the Palestinian cause, pointing to Qatar's commitment to support the Palestinian cause.
His Excellency stressed at the same time on the need to have a Palestinian national unity government and work to lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, pointing to the siege being imposed on more than a million and half Palestinians there. He added that international community must bear the responsibilities towards them.
Replying to a question on US promises to establish a Palestinian state, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed his hope to see the independent Palestinian state, adding that the US's role is a central and important one. We still have a hope that the US politicians examine well their interests in the region and take the appropriate decision in the interest of truth and stability in the region, His Excellency added.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani pointed out that going to the United Nations was not a substitute for the peace process, adding that since the start of this process and the endless promises of Israel nothing was achieved, pointing out that the Palestinians asked for Arab support to bring the international community and Israel's attention to this problem and the need to be solved.
We hope to see Palestinian and Israeli sides sit together on the same negotiating table and reach the desired peace, His Excellency said, adding that the situation has changed in Israel. The move is not a substitute for the peace process but to break the stalemate, he said, stressing that the Arabs and Palestinians will do everything possible to realize their legitimate goals.
On the situation in Syria, HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani said that the Arab countries were in agreement that unity and stability of Syria is important, as well as rejecting foreign interference, but "there is an Arab pain from the bloodshed.
He said : "We cannot accept the ongoing killing and violence in Syria ... Violence should stop to allow dialogue between the government and opposition as quickly as possible,"
The foreign ministers discussed the "serious" situation in Syria, in addition to steps to be followed in the UN when the Palestinians seek a statehood recognition, HE the Premier and Foreign Minister said.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said the conflict should be resolved within Syria or between Damascus and the Arab League "and only in this framework."
He added: "We have responsibilities as Arabs and humans, and if the killing and oppression continue in Syria then the situation will be re-examined."
For his part, the Arab League Secretary General said that Arab states fully support a planned Palestinian bid before the United Nations for recognition as an independent state.
"We are waiting for the Palestinian leadership's decision whether they will address the General Assembly or the (UN) Security Council," al-Arabi said,
The Arab League meeting precedes the forthcoming session at the United Nations, where Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to request UN recognition for an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Arabi said that, though the General Assembly cannot announce the Palestinian state as a member without the council's recommendation, it can declare Palestine as a non-permanent member.
"This means that talks with Israel will be between two countries discussing main issues, rather than negotiating the existence of the Palestinian state," Al-Arabi told reporters, after a closed session for the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.(END)
