RF PC, China CESC seek to strengthen coop as early as possible.
MOSCOW, September 14 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Public Chamber intends
to strengthen cooperation with the China Economic and Social Council
(CESC) as early as possible, said academician Yevgeny Velikhov, secretary
of the Public Chamber.
Speaking at a meeting of both organisations on Wednesday, Velikhov
said, "The Public Chamber and the China Economic and Social Council signed
a treaty of cooperation in 2009. During these years we held several
meetings and solved many joint problems."
At the same time, he said, "We have a lot of problems to resolve,
particularly social issues."
"That is why the Public Chamber intends to strengthen cooperation as
early as possible and exchange contacts in order to work out common
positions on certain issues," the Russian academician said.
Velikhov stressed, "It is important for both organisations to work out
a common position at the Rio+20 Conference that will focus on political,
economic and social problems of the countries. We should take a rational
position and present it at the Conference."
CESC Vice-Chairman Yang Chonghui said, "Russia and China are key
partners and members of the U.N. Security Council." "The expansion of our
cooperation will be useful both for our countries and for other world
states. Priority tasks are the development and deepening of economic and
social relations," the Chinese official said.
He noted, "In recent years China has achieved progress in resolving
economic and social problems." "This year our government has put forth a
programme for the social and economic development. In the next years our
country is planning to develop cooperation based on energy saving and the
environmental protection," Yang said, adding, "China is planning to adopt
Russia's experience."
A member of the Public Chamber, Alexander Sokolov, said, "The Russian
Public Chamber and the China Economic and Social Chamber should become a
source for public associations of both countries." "Despite the fact that
we hold regular meetings, our cooperation should be more extensive,"
Sokolov said.
At the same time, he called for thinking about any joint programme to
develop relations between public organisations of both countries and
submit it to the Russian and Chinese leaders.
