Turkmenistan to launch its first space satellite
ASHGABAT, September 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Turkmenistan is about to launch its first space satellite, the country's President Gurbanguly
Berdymukhammedov said in his address to participants in the
Turkmentel-2011 exhibition that opened in the capital city on Wednesday.
The launch of a satellite "will raise national television broadcasting to a qualitatively new level, will facilitate broadband internet access and will open up wide perspectives for most efficient types of communication," said the Turkmen president.
According to local electronic media, Turkmenistan's National Space
Agency created by the presidential decree on May 30, 2011 will control the low earth orbit, carry out space research, develop satellite
communications and control a national satellite.
The first artificial earth satellite was launched by the former Soviet Union on December 4, 1957.
