Seoul shares open higher on U.S. gains

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks got off to a strong start on Friday, tracking overnight rallies on Wall Street, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) surged 37.61 points, or 2.12 percent, to 1,811.69 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Shares gathered ground across the board, with blue chips gaining the most. Market bellwether Samsung Electronics jumped nearly 4 percent and top steelmaker POSCO gained almost 3 percent.
U.S. stocks extended their winning streak to a fourth straight session on Thursday as a pledge by major central banks, including the European Central Bank, to inject dollars into European lenders spurred a buying spree.
The local currency was trading at 1,111.95 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up 4.45 won from Thursday's close.
