Cyprus reportedly to get euro 2.5 bln Russian loan
LONDON, September 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Cyprus is completing talks with
Russia and is likely to get the requested 2.5 billion euro stabilization
loan, London City sources said on Thursday.
The five-year loan has the annual interest of 4.5 percent.
The Russian loan will help Cyprus stabilize its financial market
without requesting assistance from the European Union and the
International Monetary Fund. The economy of the island is in a difficult
situation because of the financial crisis in neighboring Greece. Without
the loan Cyprus would be unable to repay its government bonds worth one
billion euro by the beginning of 2012.
