Success of Russian-Tajik Univ proves counties' cooperation - view

DUSHANBE, September 16 (Itar-Tass) - Tajikistan's major higher
education institution - the Russian-Tajik /Slavic/ University /RTSU/
celebrates on Friday the 15th anniversary of its opening.
Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon greeted teachers and students of
the prestigious educational institution.
"15 years of successful work of the RTSU, which was organised at the
initiative of Tajikistan and with the support of the Russian Federation,
is a clear demonstration of practical results of our countries' tight
cooperation," he said.
"The characteristic feature of our relations, which are based on the
principles of strategic partnership, is that they are versatile," Rahmon
said highlighting the "humanitarian sector, which has a special part in
the united system of inter-governmental ties."
"It is quite natural that further expanding of bilateral humanitarian
cooperation were subjects of our discussion with Dmitry Medvedev during
his recent /on September 1-2/ official visit to Dushanbe," he said.
He is convinced that this cooperation is giving major results, and
named as an example the opening in 2010 in Dushanbe of a branch of the
Moscow Lomonosov State University. Next upcoming events are opening of
another two branches of Russia's leading universities, including that of
the Moscow Energy Institute.
Commenting on use of the Russian language in Tajikistan, the president
gave a leading role in the matter to the RTSU.
"The University should become a key structure in its major function -
training of teachers of the Russian language and literature," Rahmon said
expressing the wish the university will become as soon as possible a
research and educational centre of international level.
Nowadays, the RTSU has five faculties: economic, Russian philology,
history and international relations, legal and of pre-university training
and additional educational services. About 4,000 students study there. Out
of the university's 200 teachers, 22 are doctors and 81 are candidates of
sciences. The university has three buildings for classes, and it has laid
a basement of a new modern building.
