Seven-point quake occurs in Pacific Ocean

VLADIVOSTOK, September 17 (Itar-Tass) -- An earthquake measuring 7.1
occurred in the Pacific Ocean, 460 kilometres to the south-east of the
city of Yuzhno-Kurilsk (Kunashir Island) on Saturday morning.
According to a report of the press service of the Main Department of
the Russian Ministry for Emergencies for the Sakhalin Region, the
earthquake was registered at 06.36 Sakhalin time (23.36 Moscow time on
Friday). After that another three earthquakes measuring 5.8, 6.0 and 5.9
occurred during two hours. Their epicentres were also situated in the
Pacific Ocean, more than 400 kilometres to the south-east of
Yuzhno-Kurilsk.
The given earthquake was not felt on the territory of the Sakhalin
Region which includes all Kuril Islands. There in no tsunami threat for
the coast.
