Supreme Leader Calls on Muslim Nations to Set Aside Differences

TEHRAN (FNA)- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned Muslim nations against the devastating consequences of discord, and called for unity among the entire Muslim community.
Addressing the First International Conference on Islamic Awakening here in Tehran on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei said avoiding ethnic, sectarian, racial and border differences and stressing mutual understanding among Islamic countries is "key to the salvation of the nations".

The leader underlined that the ultimate goal is establishment of a united Islamic Ummah (community) based on religion, morality and science.

Elsewhere, Ayatollah Khamenei called for the freedom of Palestine, and stated, "The freedom of Palestine from the Zionist regime's wild clutch is the great goal that should be materialized."

The first conference on Islamic Awakening kicked off work here in Tehran on Saturday in the presence of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The conference also attended by Iran's top officials, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.

Chairman of Iran's Experts Assembly Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, Guardian Council Secretary Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, Intelligence Minister Haidar Moslehi, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalali, Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, Leader's Top Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati, Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi along with tens of other Iranian officials are also present in the conference.

Over 600 foreign thinkers and intellectuals from 80 world countries and over 400 elites from Iran will attend the two-day conference.
