Hyundai Heavy wins US$400 mln LNG tanker order from Singapore

SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's top shipbuilder, said Sunday that it has signed a US$400 million order to build two gas tankers for a Singaporean shipping line. Under the deal with BW Maritime, an affiliate of BW Group, Hyundai will deliver identical liquefied natural (LNG) carriers able to hold 155,000 cubic meters of gas each, with an option to build two more vessels. The LNG-carrying ships will be 288 meters long, have a beam of 44.2 meters and use so-called dual fuel, with diesel electric propulsion systems that run on either conventional diesel oil or gas. The two ships will be delivered in late 2014 and early 2015, respectively, the South Korean shipbuilder said. Hyundai's latest order puts the number of LNG tankers won by the company to eight for 2011. It also won orders for two LNG-floating storage and regasification vessels this year.
