Iran OKs Transfer of Libya's UNSC Seat to NTC

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast announced on Sunday that Tehran has given a yes vote to the transfer of Tripoli's seat at the UN Security Council to the National Transitional Council as Islamic Republic respects and supports the struggles and demands of the Muslim Libyan nation.
"Given the fact that Iran respects the campaign and demands of the Muslim Libyan people, it gave a yes vote to the transfer of Libya's seat at the UN to the NTC to help restore stability and security in that country," Mehman-Parast said.

He added that following the victory of the Muslim Libyan nation over Muammar Qaddafi's regime, the National Transitional Council has now become the political representative of the North African country.

Mehman-Parast felicitated the Libyan people on their victory over the former dictatorial regime, and expressed the hope that the NTC can lead the country towards national unity and solidarity and push back the influence and domination of the hegemonic powers which only seek to use the recent developments for materializing their interests and expanding their domination.

Iran has voiced strong support for the Libyan nation's revolution against Qaddafi, and sent back its Ambassador to Tripoli to resume his diplomatic activities on Tuesday.

Iran is among the few countries that didn't close down their embassy during the crisis in Libya.

"Our embassy has never been closed but the level of diplomatic activities was downgraded as a sign of protest against the suppression of the people by the (former) Libyan government," the Iranian foreign ministry presser told a weekly press conference on Tuesday.
