STX unit wins US$240 mln deal for 8 containers

SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Yonhap) -- STX Group, a South Korean shipping and shipbuilding conglomerate, said Monday that its Chinese unit has won a US$240 million deal to build 8 container vessels.
Under the deal with SEACON of Singapore, STX Dalian Shipbuilding will deliver the vessels starting from April, 2013, the group said.
The 2,000-TEU vessels are 172 meters long and 30 meters wide and will be built at the Chinese yard in Dalian, a port city in northeastern China. TEU stands for 20-foot equivalent unit.
The Chinese yard, which has an order backlog of $3.34 billion, is targeting to build more than 30 vessels annually.
