EU-RF parliamentary coop committee begins meeting at Polish
WARSAW, September 19 (Itar-Tass) -- A meeting of the European
Union-Russia parliamentary cooperation committee begins at the Polish
parliament on Monday. The meeting will be attended by Russian ambassador
to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov.
According to the press service of the upper house of the Polish
parliament, the meeting will address issues of the European Union's visa
policy towards Russia's easternmost Kaliningrad region, the policy of good
neighborhood, cooperation in science and research, as well as election
standards.
Apart from the commission members, organizers invited two experts,
governor of the Russian Kaliningrad region Nikolai Tsukanov and member of
a group for sensitive issues in Russia's and Poland's common history
Wodzimierz Marciniak.
The two-day meeting will open in the afternoon on Monday and will end
by a news conference on Tuesday.
The European-Russian parliamentary cooperation committee was set up in
1997 under an agreement on partnership and cooperation. It includes
representatives from the European parliament, and both houses of the
Russian parliament, or the State Duma and the Federation Council. The
Committee's co-chairmen are Knut Fleckenstein of the European Parliament
and Andrei Klimov, the chairman of the Russian State Duma international
committee.
