Boat-freighter collision in Zolotoi Rog blamed on boat captain

VLADIVOSTOK, September 19 (Itar-Tass) -- A collision of a boat with a
freighter in the Zolotoi Rog (Golden Horn) Bay in the centre of
Vladivostok on Sunday that killed one and injured two persons is blamed on
the boat captain who seriously violated navigation rules, a spokesman for
the Far Eastern transport investigation administration of the Russian
Investigations Committee said on Monday.
The accident occurred in the area of berth No. 47 of the Vladivostok
Fishing Port at 18:40 local time (11:40 Moscow time). A private boat,
which, according to updated data, carried 10 people, collided with the
Unix sea freighter (homeport Korsakov) and later sank. After the
collision, the boat's crew and passengers and one person from the sea
freighter fell in the water. Passing vessels rescued all of them, although
one man, Vadim Otkidach, 35, a boxing coach, died. The boat's owner and
captain was hospitalized with serious injuries, a spokesman for the Far
Eastern emergencies centre told Itar-Tass.
