S. Korea, China discuss expanding local currency use in trading: official

SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and China are discussing ways to expand the use of their local currencies in trading between the two countries, a senior finance ministry official here said Monday. "We are working through diverse channels" on the increased use of the won and the yuan in trading, Vice Finance Minister Shin Je-yoon told lawmakers during an annual parliamentary audit session. The comments were in response to a lawmaker who asked for the government to expand the use of the local currency in trade with China, which is the largest buyer of South Korean-made goods.
