Hyundai, Kia see jump in sales in China

SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. saw their sales in China jump in August, helped by rising demand for its new models, the carmakers said Tuesday.
Hyundai Motor, South Korea's leading automaker, sold a total of 63,036 units in China last month, up 3.6 percent from a year earlier and a 21.2-percent rise from the previous month.
Kia Motors, the nation's No. 2 automaker, also posted a 40-percent increase in its August sales there to reach 35,008 units last month. The August figure is also up 9.4 percent from July, it said.
According to Hyundai, it sold a total of 12,161 units of its Forte subcompact sedan in China last month, a monthly record high. The automaker began selling the vehicle in July last year.
Kia sold 3,502 units of its K5 mid-size sedan in China last year, breaking its previous monthly sales record of 3,245 reached in June, it said.
