Ssangyong aims to sell 300,000 cars by 2016
SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- Ssangyong Motor Co., South Korea's smallest automaker, said Tuesday that it aims to sell 300,000 cars and push up sales to 7 trillion won (US$6.1 billion) by 2016.
The company's new growth strategy announced in Seoul aims to transform Ssangyong into the most innovative and respected automotive company in the country, the carmaker said.
In 2010, the carmaker sold 81,747 vehicles with sales topping 2 trillion won, with numbers expected to go up to around 3 trillion won and 121,000 units by year's end. In the eight months of this year, Ssangyong sold 76,736 car, including complete knockdown kits, which represents a gain of 52.2 percent from the year before.
To reach the target, the company said it will develop globally competitive vehicles, acquire next generation technologies and expand its international sales network.
It also calls for continuous efforts to reduce costs, strengthen its ties with its parent company Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and set up a new sales firm that can help prospective customers finance new vehicles.
Ssangyong, meanwhile, said that before reaching its long-term goal for 2016, the carmaker will strive to push up sales to 160,000 with sales topping 4 trillion won in 2013.
