S. Korea pledges $200,000 for flood-hit Pakistan

SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has pledged US$200,000 worth of relief items for flood victims in Pakistan, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.
Nearly 230 Pakistanis were killed and another 5 million people affected in the monsoon rains that began last month, according to official figures. Some 4 million acres of land were also inundated.
The South Asian country was hit by the worst floods in its history just last year.
"We will transport relief items requested by Pakistan, including tents, water purification tablets and blankets, starting on Wednesday," ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae said during a regular press briefing.
The deliveries are expected to arrive in Pakistan around Sunday, he said.
