Economy to top agenda of Russia-Japan high-level meeting.
MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - Economy will be high on the agenda
of the upcoming meeting between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, the Kremlin's top economic
adviser, Arkady Dvorkovich, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
"Along with traditional political issues, economy will be high on the
talks' agenda," he said noting that Medvedev usually takes opportunities
provided by large-scale international forums such as the G8 and the G20
summits for holding bilateral consultations with his counterparts.
Dvorkovich did not specify the date of the two countries' leaders, but
noted that Medvedev and Noda "had a telephone conversation, during which
they agreed to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit or of the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum."
The G20 will take place in France on November 3-4, while the APEC
summit - in the United States on November 12-14.
This will be Medvedev's first meeting with Yoshihiko Noda who took
office less than a month ago.
"As they have not met in such a format before, it is necessary to take
an inventory of all topics," the aide said.
Last November at the meeting with former Prime Minister Naoto Kan
Medvedev spoke for bringing economic, not political issues to the
forefront in the Russian-Japanese relations.
"The president said it would be better to discard emotional statements
and diplomatic gestures, because they do not help matters, quite the
contrary," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in his comments on the
meeting.
