Korean Air opens cargo flights to Chengdu
SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's top carrier, announced Wednesday it has launched regular cargo flights between the southwest Chinese city of Chengdu and South Korea's main gateway of Incheon.
The Incheon-Chengdu route will be handled by B747-400 cargo planes with flights scheduled each Wednesday and Friday. The large jumbo jets will be used to meet growing demand for transportation of industrial goods produced by tech firms in the Chinese City, said Korean Air in a statement.
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is an industrial cluster for global information and technology firms such as Apple Inc. and Dell Inc.
Korean Air said that the new route will help the company tap into the fast-growing Chinese market.
