Typhoon Roke to sweep along Kuriles on way to Pacific
VLADIVOSTOK, September 21 (Itar-Tass) - Typhoon Roke, which hit
southern and central Japan on Tuesday, is expected to sweep along the
Kuril islands chain and get away to the Pacific on Thursday.
A very heavy rain with a 50 mm rainfall within twelve hours and wind
velocity of up to 25-30 metres per second are the Thursday forecast for
the South Kuril and Kuril districts.
A storm warning about deterioration of weather to dangerous
proportions has been circulated in all the prospectively affected areas,
the Hydrometeocenter of the Sakhalin Region has announced.
An Itar-Tass correspondent reported from Tokyo on Tuesday, that
Typhoon Roke killed one person and injured three, and two were reported
missing. Over 1.3 million Japanese people were recommended to be evacuated
to safety.
