ATX fire disrupts phone communication in city neighbourhood.
GORNO-ALTAISK, Altai Republic, September 21 (Itar-Tass) - A fire at an
automatic telephone exchange in Gardinka neighbourhood on Tuesday night
has left 1,300 subscribers without telephone communication in
Gorno-Altaisk, the capital of the Altai Republic. The subscribers have
been also deprived of access to the Internet. An Itar-Tass correspondent's
office, which is located in the same neighbourhood, is among the
facilities affected by the mishap.
An official in the city branch of the Rostelekom Company has told
Itar-Tass, "The ATX building has been gutted out by the fire completely.
As many as 1,300 subscribers will have to do without telephone
communication for a week at least".
"The burned-down ATX was located on the outskirts of Gorno-Altaisk in
isolation from the other ATX of the Rostelekom Company. The Company
managment is now busy deciding how to reconstruct the telephone exchange
and restore telephone communication for the subscribers in the Gardinka
neighbourhood," the Company official said.
