S. Korea condemns assassination of former Afghan leader
SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Wednesday condemned a suicide bomber's assassination of former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani, who had been leading peace efforts with the Taliban.
The Korean government "strongly denounces the terrorist attack" on Rabbani, head of Afghanistan's High Peace Council, in Kabul on Tuesday and "offers its deepest condolences and consolation," Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae said in a statement.
Rabbani was killed when the suicide bomber posing as an emissary detonated concealed explosives in his turban after entering Rabbani's house.
