SK Telecom creates healthcare division as part of reorganization

SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- SK Telecom Co., the country's largest mobile operator, said Wednesday it has set up a new division dedicated to the healthcare business, as part of its business reorganization plans.
SK Telecom is scheduled to spin off its mobile software and mobile applications division as a wholly-owned separate entity as of Oct. 1, in a bid to better respond to shifts in the wireless industry.
The company's healthcare business division will be tasked with developing new health services based on mobile technology, such as wireless medical services, and utilizing hospitals equipped with wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi), it said.
The company has been in search of new growth engines as the expansion in the country's wireless market became saturated. Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea's largest-cap company, also views healthcare as a new revenue source as the country's aging population increases.
