Hyundai Heavy wins 600 bln won order for drill-ship

SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's leading shipbuilder, said Thursday it has won a 600 billion won (US$511 million) deal to build a drill-ship.
Under the deal with Noble Drilling Corp., the world's second-largest offshore drilling contractor, Hyundai Heavy will deliver the vessel by the end of 2014, the company said.
A drill-ship is a maritime vessel with drilling apparatus and is used for exploratory offshore drilling of new oil or gas wells in deep waters.
In January of this year, Hyundai Heavy won a 1.14 trillion won contract from Noble Drilling for two drill-ships.
Hyundai Heavy has set a new order target of $19.8 billion in 2011 in the shipbuilding and offshore plant sector. It has won new orders worth $1.71 billion so far this year.
