Dockyard on Neva River to build new minesweeping ship

ST.PETERSBURG (Itar-Tass) - A minesweeping ship of a new
generation will soon come into service with the Russian Navy. The ship's
body will be made from monolithic fibreglass created by Russian experts
according to a special technology.
The ship's construction will be launched at the Sredne-Nevskiy
dockyard on Thursday.
The cannon at the Naryshkin bastion of the Peter and Paul fortress
will traditionally fire one shot to mark the event. After that, the shot
case will be put on display at a plant museum.
The ship project 12700 with water displacement of 800 tons was
designed by the central maritime design bureau "Almaz". The ship can
search for mines and destroy them at a distance safe for the ship. The use
of traditional mine hunting equipment is also possible.
The ship's designers paid special attention to the crew's comfort and
created all conditions to enable officers and sailors to effectively
perform combat tasks and have good rest.
