S. Korea re-elected to IAEA board

SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korea was re-elected to the executive board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday.
Eleven board seats were up for election at the IAEA general conference held in Vienna, Austria, this week. Newly-elected board members included Cuba, Mexico and Italy, the ministry said in a statement.
The 35-member board is the highest decision-making body of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, which rules on noncompliance issues such as the North Korean and Iranian nuclear programs.
South Korea became an IAEA member in 1957 and has been elected to serve on the board for a total of 14 terms.
