Ruling United Russia begins two-day congress.
MOSCOW, September 23 (Itar-Tass) -- The ruling United Russia Party led
by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will open its two-day congress on Friday
which will be addressed by Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday.
The congress, which will reportedly gather up to ten thousand
delegates in Luzhniki sport complex, is to approve the election program
and the nationwide party ticket of 600 candidates for the December 4
parliamentary election.
Besides, new people may be appointed to the governing bodies of the
party, according to presidium secretary Sergei Neverov. "They were
determined at regional primaries and comprise both representatives of
public associations and of the party," he said adding "a major rotation of
regional party leaders has taken place" and 27 of them resigned.
The federal party ticket can have ten names, but is likely to include
only one person - Putin who in May launched the All-Russia People's Front
in a bid to broaden support of United Russia. Activists from the Front
will occupy 185 out of 600 places on the United Russia's parliamentary
candidate lists.
United Russia's main rivals, the Communist Party and the Just Russia,
will also hold their congresses on Saturday.
