S. Korean Red Cross chief offers to resign

SEOUL (Yonhap) - The head of South Korea's Red Cross has offered to resign for unknown reasons, with his term due to expire next month, the organization's officials said Friday.
Yoo Chong-ha, the 75-year-old president of the Korean Red Cross, has informed the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae of his intention not to serve a second term, and his three-year term in office will end Oct. 7, according to the officials.
"He expressed his will days before he left on Wednesday for a meeting in North America," Kim Yong-hun, an official at the Red Cross said, without elaborating on the reasons for Yoo's sudden decision.
