MBC labor union postpones strike

SEOUL (Yonhap) - Labor union of the nation's public broadcaster MBC said on Friday that they decided to put off a general strike as they reached a compromise with the management over wage and other sensitive issues.
"The labor and management, in the last-minute negotiations held in the morning, reached an agreement in broad terms on key sensitive issues," a union spokesman said. "So, we decided to postpone the strike scheduled for Monday."
The two sides will announce the agreement when it is finalized later on Friday, the union said.
The postponement came a day after the union threatened to press ahead with the strike as planned as the two sides failed to narrow differences over demands to ensure impartiality of the broadcaster's news programs and the company's plan to merge small local branches considered uncompetitive.
