Medvedev, Merkel discuss MidEast settlement on the phone

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have talked on the phone to discuss
the Middle East peace process in light of the discussion of this topic at
the UN General Assembly session in New York. As the Kremlin's press
service said, the conversation was initiated by the German side.
"Dmitry Medvedev and Angela Merkel expressed satisfaction with the
joint statement, work out by the quartet of international mediators on the
Middle East, which directs all parties towards the resumption of
negotiations in a constructive manner. In this context, Merkel praised the
contribution of the Russian side to preparing this important document and
the well-established Russian-German political cooperation," said the
Kremlin.
Medvedev and Merkel also discussed the schedule of contacts at the
highest level and raised a number of topical issues of bilateral
cooperation.
