3 killed in construction site collapse in Daejeon

DAEJEON (Yonhap) - Three workers were killed at a construction site in Daejeon, central South Korea, on Sunday, when they were accidentally buried alive while building underground drainage pipe networks, police said.
The accident took place at 10 a.m. when the water-weakened ground near Gapcheon Stream in Daejeon, 164 kilometers south of Seoul, collapsed, burying a welder in a seven-meter-deep pit, they said.
Two other workers were also buried after unsuccessfully trying to rescue the welder, police said, adding that the three were all found dead later by rescue workers.
Police were investigating the incident based on testimonies by witnesses who said they heard a "bang" come from the construction site around the time of the accident.
