Iran Voices Support for G15 to Help Widen Regional Ties

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed Tehran's strong support for the G15 in a bid to help broaden the relations and cooperation among the regional countries.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Percy Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.
"Hegemonic powers are worried about the expansion and reinvigoration of multilateral relations among those nations looking for justice," he added.
Ahmadinejad further hailed the friendly relations between Iran and Sri Lanka, and said the two countries' ties are based on common grounds, adding that both nations are moving to expand their bilateral regional ties.
Referring to the position of Sri Lanka as the head of G15 summit, President Ahmadinejad added, "Iran supports the measures taken by this group in order to promote regional ties."
The Sri Lankan president said, "We support the stand and rights of the Iranian nation in different areas."
He also emphasized close relations between regional groupings, and stated that Iran's experience could be valuable in strengthening and activating regional cooperation as a goal pursued by the G15.
