Festivities on Day of Krasnodar held without incidents
KRASNODAR, September 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Festive events on the occasion of the Day of Krasnodar ended in the city on Sunday evening. "The celebrations lasted two days and ended without any incidents," a source in the Krasnodar territorial authorities told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
This year Krasnodar celebrates its 218th anniversary. Major
festivities were held on the Teatralnaya Square, which is the main square of the city. The Kuban Cossack Choir and a popular pop singer Oleg Gazmanov gave a concert on the square. The highlight of the celebrations was a festive ceremony to unveil a new unique fountain right in the middle of the square.
Festive events were held in various Krasnodar districts on Sunday.
Kuban's Governor Alexander Tkachev congratulated Krasnodar residents on the main city holiday. He recalled that "Krasnodar residents have been preparing together with Kuban to the City Day for the whole year, a common birthday, which turned into one of the most favourite and landmark holidays."
"Perhaps, this is why someone was seeking to mar the holiday," Tkachev said. "We live in the North Caucasus and should be ready for any situations. Therefore, when Krasnodar was informed about a probable terrorist threat unprecedented security measures were taken. We could not put the life and health of people at risk," the governor recalled. "Thanks to all, who made our holiday possible and safe," Tkachev remarked.
On Saturday, the law enforcers in the territory received the
information about a likely penetration of terrorists in Kuban. A
round-the-clock emergency response headquarters was immediately formed in Krasnodar. Over 2,000 operatives were included in the emergency response headquarters. The police patrols were reinforced on the roads leading to the city for identity checkups. The Kuban governor urgently returned to Krasnodar from Moscow, where he attended the United Russia party congress, and was receiving the constant urgent information all this time.
