Wildfire area exceeds 1,000 hectares in Siberia
KRASNOYARSK, September 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The wildfire area grew 541.5 hectares to reach 1,133 hectares in Siberia over the past day.
Some 13 from 16 wildfires on 914 hectares are localized, the press
service of the Siberian regional emergencies center told Itar-Tass on
Monday. "Last Sunday from 30 fires spotted on a total area of 778.1
hectares 20 fires on 449.1 hectares were put down in the daylight. Some 12 more forest fires on 223 hectares spotted in the afternoon on September 24 were extinguished," the press service reported.
The hardest fire situation is reported in the Republic of Tuva and the Baikal Territory. The fires are also raging in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and in the Irkutsk Region.
Some 1,454 people of policemen, emergency workers, municipal fire
engines, volunteers and 332 units of machinery were involved in the
operations to put out the forest fires and to take preventive measures
over the past day. Emergency helicopters dropped some 15 tonnes of water in the Baikal Territory.
Meanwhile, fire inspectors and forest rangers went on 330 raids to
expose the violations of the fire safety rules in the forests and have
filed 32 administrative offence protocols against the violators over the past day. Some 728 permanent and mobile posts were placed to restrict the access in the forests and to monitor the fire situation.
